Bone Resorption Due to Missing Teeth. Ref.: 38
Edentulism, or absence of teeth, causes a progressive resorption of the maxilla and mandible due to the lack of stimulation by the teeth. Here we can see how the progressive bone resorption will cause changes in both the external and internal appearance, which may cause the complete prosthesis to lose fit and mobility, which can be uncomfortable for both chewing and speech.
