COVID-19. Recommendations for health care providers and patients. Ref.: 72
Many contagious diseases are spread through direct or indirect human contact.
Bacteria and viruses, such as Covid-19 or coronavirus, can be transmitted by microparticles of saliva that we expel when we cough, sneeze, talk or through the contact of our hands with different surfaces.
These pathogenic elements, if a series of precautions are not followed, can enter our body through our airways or mucous membranes, after having touched contaminated surfaces or having been in close contact with an infected person.
It is important to know the patient's medical history, to rule out symptoms that may indicate a possible infection.
If the necessary protective measures are not taken, such as the use of masks with the appropriate protection factor, goggles, hat and gloves, the healthcare professional has a high risk of contagion, as he/she is in close proximity to the patient.
